Qix Wiki has several levels of administration, collectively known as the Staff to ensure the security of the site, as well as dealing with content management, conflict resolution, mission integrity, and other maintenance functions.

Staff are not the be-all end-all when it comes to decision-making. All users are encouraged to propose changes, solutions, and ideas without fear that staff will shut them down because of their position. Staff are simply well-experienced and well-trusted individuals that have extra tools to better serve the function of the wiki.

Being staff is a voluntary position. Should a user choose to step down at any given time, they are more than welcome to do so. Staff may lose rank after extended periods of inactivity. For this reason, inactive or voluntarily demoted staff may return to their position if requested.

The staff ranks and capabilities are as follows:

;Bureaucrat
Oversees the wiki and makes final decisions about promotions, scope, and social presence. These are effectively the "owners" of Qix Wiki, and carry the same permissions as administrators.

Current bureaucrats: Trig Jegman

;Administrator
This staff group is in charge of maintenance and safety. Users of this group have the ability to ban users from editing the site, delete pages and files, and other tools. They should be seen as well-experienced users who enforce the site policy.

Current administrators: Trig Jegman

;Patroller
This staff group is for highly active users with an eye for ensuring all content added to Qix Wiki is accurate, well displayed, and useful. Users in this group also have the ability to move pages without leaving redirects. Patrollers should be seen as model editors to look up to and follow.

Talk pages are a communication feature of MediaWiki to allow discussing the topics of pages. These are useful tools to discuss missing content, inaccuracies, formatting changes, or corrections to be made. That said, there are specific limitations to the discussions held via talk pages.

What should be on talk pages
*Formatting changes
*Missing content, or coverage documentation
*Requests for changes or corrections
*On-topic discussion about the page and its purpose, use, or material.

What should not be on talk pages
This material is best suited for third party platforms, or a user's personal page or talk page.
*Theories and speculation
*Commentary
*Personal achievements

Pages that do not meet these criteria are subject to deletion. Furthermore, unless there is a compelling reason to do so, talk pages should not be kept if the main page is deleted.

Qix Wiki maintains the use of several colors for consistency and sleek, clean design. In order to accomplish this, the use of colors must remain consistent by using the color template, or by manually following the following color scheming:

*red <span style="color:#FF4949;">#FF4949</span>
*blue <span style="color:#1155f2;">#1155F2<span>
*purple <span style="color:#ae5eda;">#AE5EDA</span>
*lightgreen <span style="color:#55f211;">#55F211</span>
*darkgreen <span style="color:#459223;">#459223</span>
*gray <span style="color:#737373;">#737373</span>
*white <span style="color:#fffdfe;">#FFFDFE</span>
*black <span style="background-color:#737373; color:#000000;">#000000</span> (background for visual appearance)

Furthermore, these colors have specific uses in templates as well. Tables (including Navboxes) use the table template in order to have all colors and displays be the same regardless of the iteration used. Notice templates also have specific colorations for their borders: Red borders generally indicate a warning or administrative function, while purple is for maintenance. A light green border is reserved for most other purposes, primarily for templates that appear on pages like stub.

Use of these colors is beneficial for consistent design and accessibility purposes, as well as fitting in with the general arcade theme of Qix as a whole!

Qix Wiki maintains a particular scope when it comes to documenting content. While it does seek to document the Qix series as best possible, there are limits as to what gets covered.

Games
Qix or Qix-styled games are quite plentiful, to the degree that the franchise is some of the most copied or cloned video games ever. In order to properly filter out appropriate, dedicated releases, the following criteria must be met:
*The game existed. No rumors or speculation permitted.
*The game must have had a dedicated or planned console release, or be released to non-smartphone mobile devices, or be an officially registered web release. Games that only appear on the Apple App Store, the Google Play Store, or Huawei AppGallery do not meet this criteria and should not be included.
*The game is in someway referential to Qix-style gameplay. Gameplay does not need to 1:1 match up to exactly how Qix operates, but must clearly be designed to replicate, function similarly, or draw major inspiration from the Qix franchise.
*Not Safe For Work (NSFW) titles are permitted to be covered, but images demonstrating inappropriate, lewd, or otherwise objectionable content are not allowed and will be removed on-sight.

Should a game not meet these criteria but still be believed to be notable, or a game covered appears to not meet the scope requirements, it should be discussed via talk page (either on the game itself, or this policy's talk page). If there is enough consensus that something meets the criteria, or should bend these policies, it should be clearly noted on the talk page of the game.

Companies
Generally speaking, the following types of companies should have pages:
*Developers
*Publishers
*Distributors (if different from publishers)
*Console designers

People
Real people may warrant their own pages. Examples of people who are notable to have their own pages include:
*Development teams
**Programmers
**Musicians/Composers
**Artists
**Directors/Management
*Major speedrunners or high-scoring players
*Other influential figures

Consoles
Any video game console with a full release of a game should receive a page. Consoles where games were only planned but never saw releases should not receive pages. Mobile devices, browsers, and operating systems should not receive pages.

Speedrunning and High Scores
Speedrunning and competitive Scoring, as a subjective and often changing topic, should only be documented in the Competitive: namespace. Only the active top five times or scores should be documented, with the exception of ties, where each tie should be documented as well. Qix Wiki is not a platform to self-promote Qix leaderboards, and should not be interpreted as such: This wiki is merely documenting an important aspect to gameplay.

Non-Qix content
It is exceedingly rare to need to document materials that do not relate to Qix gameplay directly in any format. These pages should be made sparingly and deliberately, only when absolutely necessary to understand a particular subject or fill a gap left by others affiliated sites.

Qix Wiki strives to remain as objective as possible in its documentation of content. Content should not be written to favor certain versions or releases of a title over another, disparage game mechanics, or criticize development processes. This also should apply to coverage of people, like programmers, speedrunners, or producers.

Remaining objective effectively means to write without bias or emotional influence. Articles are meant to inform and educate readers, not provide commentary or opinions. Should an article contain biased writing, it should either be handled directly or have Template:Bias added to it, requesting assistance.

Actions taken by people or organizations may be unsavory or controversial, which is not a discussion for Qix Wiki to indulge with. These decisions or outcomes should be as emotionally removed/factual as possible, only to document the event that occurred and/or the outcomes that followed. Specific reactions (unless necessary for context), should not be included. The same philosophy should apply to gameplay as well: A mechanic does not "suck", but instead its "behavior did not work as intended".

Gameplay and strategy should be written carefully. Some methods of play will, in nature, work more often than other methods of play, but Qix Wiki affirms that these are simply the most popular or generally accepted methods for successful gameplay—strategies presented are not the only means of playing the games successfully. They are suggested for use, not mandatory.

Trig Jegman: Protected "Qix Wiki:Redirects" ([Edit=Allow only administrators] (indefinite) [Move=Allow only administrators] (indefinite))

Redirects are a useful tool to help improve navigation and search result appearances. They are simple to set up, and should be created under several reasons:

Creating a redirect
Create the page you would like to be the redirect. Add <code>#REDIRECT</code> followed by a link to the intended destination page. For example, Qix (NES) will have <code>#REDIRECT [<nowiki/>[Qix (Nintendo Entertainment System)]]</code> to go to Qix (Nintendo Entertainment System).

Reasons to make redirects
Here are common reasons to create redirects:
*Capitalization. By far the most common reason to make redirects, the search bar through the MediaWiki platform is case-sensitive, so many results may not appear. An example of when to use capitalization redirects would be Qix neo for Qix Neo. This is generally an "all or nothing" practice—a blend of capitalized terms and non-capitalized terms is generally not necessary or useful.
*Multiple names in use. The clearest example is how Volfied was released in some territories initially as Ultimate Qix. When this is the case, in conjunction with the naming policy, redirects should be made for other applicable names. This is also the case for abbreviations or regional names for consoles, such as NES and Nintendo Entertainment System as listed previously.
*Unusual punctuation. The two primary cases when this may be the case is when titles use specific punctuation. The first is smart punctuation, which is a specific register of stylized apostrophes, quotation marks, and ellipsis. These should be redirects, and pages utilize standard punctuation marks. The second is the use of hyphens and dashes. Primarily, pages should use hyphens (-) or mdashes (&mdash;). Redirects should be made not using any hyphens or dashes, but only if a page uses a dash should a hyphen redirect be made.

Reasons to not make redirects
Here are some reasons redirects may not be made:
*A disambiguation works better. Sometimes a term is too broad or applicable to be a redirect. An example is Qix, which could refer to the enemy, game, this wiki, or the Qix series. Because of this, a disambiguation is better.
*The redirect is in a namespace that isn't useful to redirect for. Examples include any talk pages, files, categories, and templates. These almost never have reasons to redirect users, as it is more straightforward to just link directly to using them. It may also cause issues with pages like categories, where content will not be appropriately categorized.
*Competitive pages for speedrunning and point leaderboards.
On rare occasions, there may be pages that need to be created with lesser relevance to the franchise as a whole. These are niche cases, and should be kept minimal.
Qix Wiki:Files

Trig Jegman: Protected "Qix Wiki:Files" ([Edit=Allow only administrators] (indefinite) [Move=Allow only administrators] (indefinite))

Qix Wiki utilizes various files in order to properly document, commentate, and describe ideas and educate readers about the mechanics or display of Qix that could otherwise not be put into words. Because the use of files is nearly always copyrighted, Qix Wiki has a variety of standards to ensure that all files remain used in fair use and organized.

Uploading files
Files must utilize the file template. While a more thorough explanation is on the template page, the purpose of this template is to:
*Identify the where a file was taken
*Identify the purpose of the file
*Affirm that the file does not breach copyright
*Categorize the file

A blank template that can be added to new or existing uploads can be found here:
<pre style="color:white;"> </pre>

Types of files
Images
The most common type of file on the site. Images are used to represent visual elements of a game, whether through the gameplay itself, physical iterations of the game, or other elements that would not effectively be done through text. Images should be clean, clear of watermarks or blurriness, and appropriately represent content. Qix Wiki's use of images should not be minimalist, but the number of images on pages should be kept low—it is believed that imagery of gameplay cannot be substituted for playing the game, but this can only be accomplished if images used have explicit purposes for covering material. Images should not be used on pages for the sake of having images.

There are several image types available to use on Qix Wiki:
;JPG
JPG, also called JPEG, is a lossy image format. It is one of the most common types of image types available digitally. This image format loses quality in order to preserve space, and for this reason should generally be avoided. If a file is already a jpg file, keep it as a jpg. Do not convert this file to any other type. Historically, jpg is for print media (like manuals) due to use of color: for this reason, most jpg files are going to be of artwork or photography.

For organization purposes, files with a jpeg extension can and should be uploaded to use jpg instead.

;PNG
PNG is a lossless image format. It is a very common image type. This should be the format of the majority of files on Qix Wiki, such as gameplay, sprites, and diagrams. This file type has a wide variety of colors and transparency available to be used as well. These files have a tendency to become large in size and for this reason, should be losslessly optimized (not compressed) using an optimization program. Examples of programs include:
*ImageOptim (mac)
*PNG Monstrous (windows)
*Trimage (linux)
*EZGif (web)

;WEBP
This is a lossy or lossless file type from Google. Due to significant security issues, it will not be accepted as a file format on Qix Wiki.

;BMP
This file format is an uncompressed format. It is, in theory, the highest possible quality that a file can be. Due to its massive size and generally being unlikely to be formally released in this way, BMP files will not be accepted. They should be converted in PNG files, and then optimized as described above.

Audio and Music
Commonly also found are sound effects and music, often housed under the term "audio". While audio is a powerful descriptive tool, it should also be used sparingly in order to fulfill copyright restrictions. Music should never uploaded in full duration, and quality of audio files should be lowered in order to not be interchangeable with the original source format.

There are several tools available to help manage and edit audio. Some examples are the following:|
*Editor.audio (web)
*Ocenaudio (download program)
*Audacity 2.4.2 (download program) <small>Note: Do not use Audacity 3.0 or higher due to security issues. This is the last stable release of the program.</small>

;MP3
This is the primary audio format to be used on Qix Wiki. It is available on all major browsers and operating systems, and has a reasonable compression system in place for listening.

;OGG / OGA
OGA, though often generalized as OGG, is a free format available by Xiph.org. While it has been a standard for an extended period of time, it has fallen out of universal use, primarily for Apple devices and services. These files, while acceptable on the site, are generally discouraged due to some users not being able to properly utilize them. Despite this, many official recordings may still use OGG. In these instances, both the original OGG file and and MP3 conversion should be added, with MP3 being used on the page, and the OGG being listed in the file's description and source for reference.

;WAV, M4A, and FLAC
As these files are lossless and therefore not compressed and reduced in quality, they do not meet Qix Wiki's standards of fair use and should not be used. Instead, they should be converted to MP3 via an editing program.

Video
The use of video on Qix Wiki is generally discouraged. Videos of direct gameplay are not permitted, and the only form of video that should be added to the wiki would be trailers, interviews, or other observational/commentary forms of media. Should a video wish to be used, using YouTube or Dailymotion as a hosting service should be prioritized instead.

;MP4
This is the only form of video accepted on Qix Wiki at this time. All encoding must be done with H.264, and the videos should not exceed 720p in size.

Animation
Animations are considered a unique, or visually interesting way to present gameplay mechanics. An excellent example is the erratic movement of the Qix, or the animation of a square being filled in. Animations are accepted, but should be kept to a low volume as to not serve as a replacement for gameplay. Animated files should not be full-screen captures, but rather as small selections or interpreted from sprite sheets. Qix Wiki reserves the right to slow down some animations to avoid eye damage or strain, with the clear notice that alteration has occurred both on file use and the file description.

;GIF
By far the most popular animation format, the use of this format is discouraged from use as GIF uses a limited color palette, and is limited by how much it can display at one time. If the original source file is gif, it should be kept in this format.

;APNG
The successor to GIF, APNG seeks to fix many of the issues provided by GIF. For this reason, its use is encouraged over GIF.

Naming files
Files should be formatted consistently and uniformly. This allows for organization and clarity in a file's purpose. The method for all game files should be the following format:
<code>Game</code> <code>Console</code> <code>Region</code> <code>Type/Contents</code>
For example, Qix Screenshot is not an acceptable name, but Qix Game Boy NTSC Screenshot is. All files should use title casing, lowercase extensions, and avoid punctuation where possible. Use of periods, hashes, and ampersands within file names is prohibited due to issues with linking. Furthermore, jpeg files should be formatted as jpg, and ogg should be oga. If the game was released on a dedicated piece of hardware for the game (like a plug-n-play unit), the console name does not need added.

Some game titles run long. For this reason, and only within files, should the abbreviations list be consulted:
Abbreviations

Using files
To include a file in a page, use a link in one of the following forms:
*[<nowiki/>[File:File.jpg]] to use the full version of the file
*[<nowiki/>[File:File.png|200px|thumb|left|Caption]] to use a 200-pixel-wide rendition in a box in the left margin with the text "Caption" below
*[<nowiki/>[Media:File.oga]] for directly linking to the file without displaying the file

To make a gallery, use the tag <<nowiki/>gallery>, then list file names on new lines, and close with <<nowiki/>/gallery>. Gallery files can and should receive captions just the same as individual files.

File quality standards
User content
Users may have up to three personal images. No personal videos or audio may be used. Files to be used as sandbox drafts, or otherwise are intended to be on main pages do not count for this limit. Administration reserves the right to delete files exceeding this limit.

Deletion is the process of removing content from public view. Qix Wiki, as well as all wikis in general, utilize deletion as a process of maintenance, security, safety, and proper documentation. Any content may be deleted at any time, but there must generally be a compelling reason to do so. Major examples include the following:

*A page is not within scope.
*It exceeds the limits set within the user content policy.
*It is a non-mainspace redirect that is no longer necessary, such as the result of a page rename.
*Blatant spam or vandalism efforts.
*A delete request was made, and an administrator approved its deletion.
*Something has been replaced with a new version, typically in regards to files or templates.

Furthermore, individual revisions may also be deleted. Reasons for revision deletions may include:
*Blatant vandalism
*Offensive material
*Unacceptable external links
*Broken or otherwise non-functional revisions
