These stages must be unlocked by completing [[Cubixx HD/Arcade Mode|Arcade Mode]] levels, and typically revolve around meeting a set criteria for completion over just capturing enough space. All Challenges must be completed only on a single life. Meeting the criteria for the level but dying will still result in a loss. Each Challenges level has a set gimmick, with better or more difficult completion awarding a different medal type. The easiest to complete is Bronze, with Silver coming second and Gold as the "best" performance. There is a fourth, secret completion medal "Platinum" which is only unlocked after meeting the hidden criteria, usually a more strict version of the Gold medal. After completing a level at Platinum, the requirement for that level's Platinum barrier is unlocked, and is permanently shown on the level select menu and scoring menus.
