Qix is a 1990 port of the original arcade game for the Nintendo Game Boy. This version lacks color, and does not have music during gameplay. Depending on the player's performance, Mario from the Super Mario series will appear dressed as a stereotype of various countries. This release was re-released on the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console in Japan on June 15, 2011 and the rest of the world on July 7th of the same year.

Gameplay
Following suit of the primary arcade release, the Game Boy version has both Fast and Slow Draws available. As the console does not support color, the different regions are instead shaded a darker checker pattern for Slow Draws and a lighter, solid color for Fast Draws. The primary threshold for completion is 75%, and the player has three lives by default.

There is also a player versus player mode available via Link Cable, where player 1 is Mario and player 2 is Luigi. Victory shows a small cheering animation, where losing shows a sad animation.
</gallery>
<br clear=all>
Scoring
Points are earned based off the size of the area captured. Slow Draws are worth twice as much as Fast ones. For each percentage above the threshold, the player earns another bonus 1000 points. Splitting two Qix to end a stage will triple all bonus points above the threshold for the stage after it—splitting three Qix will quadruple it. 50,000 points are awarded instead if 99% of the playfield is captured.

High scores are only saved when the console is on, and can be viewed on the title screen by pressing B.

The player is awarded an extra life upon crossing four point thresholds, and no more lives can be earned by other means:
*50,000
*100,000
*200,000
*500,000
