The Nintendo Entertainment System, called the Famicom in Japan, is Nintendo's first home video game console. Aside from Qix games, the NES was home to the debut of popular franchises including The Legend of Zelda and Metroid. A port of Qix was released for this console, developed by Novotrade; Nintendo themselves would later develop their own version of Qix for the Game Boy with Threshold Research.
